Week 8
Day 56
Memorize

Build a house and at some point, there will be maintenance. Install a landscape, and at some point, there will be weeding, mulching, and trimming. Buy and drive a car, and there will be routine maintenance. Nearly everything that we acquire that has value has a maintenance routine attached to it. Because our brains are organic and imperfect, even Scripture memory requires maintenance. By having a fun and simple review SYSTEM in place as you begin to memorize Scripture, you will find that not only do the Scriptures stay firm and fresh in your mind, but your heart will stay in a constant state of fellowship and readiness with Christ. As with yesterday’s instruction on where to memorize, I would recommend that you use downtime – times in your day that require very little brain activity – make the most of every opportunity! My favorite review time is while running, dog walking, bathroom, and car time (off phone). There made be no more profound way to apply Ephesians 5:15-17 in the 21st Century than what you are about to do!

BY FAR the best Bible memory routine available is an app for your phone or computer. Simply connect to the website below and sign up. Currently, the first 50 verses on the app are free, and after that, a one-time $5-10 purchase. What is REALLY COOL are the routines that help you memorize. The app keeps up with how well you are learning and puts your verses in a logical review order to keep your mind sharp. It is exciting to think that GOD IS EQUIPPING HIS PEOPLE through a smartphone app using a device that is a normal part of our everyday lives!

To get the app on your phone, tablet, or computer, either go to https://biblememory.com/, or look up the app in your app store under Bible Memory. Select the Bible version (NIV, ESV, etc.) you want to memorize in, and then start adding your Essentials memory verses to your memorized verse list. If you link your account to your computer, you will have different memorization routines (like typing speed modules). The smartphone routines are more stream-lined but are GREAT for keeping verses sharp while spending down-time with your phone in hand.

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Ephesians 5:15-17

Use some time right now to equip your phone, tablet, and computer, to in turn, equip you mind!

Memory Verses

Primary Verse

How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Psalm 119:9, 11
Secondary Verse

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
